What is a brow lift?
A brow lift, or forehead lift, raises eyebrows that have dropped with age or are naturally low, and can soften horizontal forehead lines and frown lines. A low brow can make the eyes look tired, heavy or angry, even when the eyelids themselves are healthy.
A brow lift does not replace eyelid surgery when excess eyelid skin is the main problem, and the two are often combined.

Brow lift techniques
The technique is chosen according to your anatomy rather than a single standard approach.
Direct brow lift
Skin is removed just above the eyebrow, allowing precise correction of brow height and asymmetry. It suits patients with thick brows, where the scar can be hidden.
Temporal (lateral) brow lift
The outer part of the brow is lifted through small incisions hidden in the temple hair.
Endoscopic brow lift
The whole brow and forehead are lifted through a few small incisions behind the hairline, using a camera.
Combined with eyelid surgery
A brow lift is often combined with upper blepharoplasty to refresh the whole upper face.

How the operation is performed
- Planning: your photos, medical history and goals are reviewed and the technique is agreed before the day of surgery.
- Marking: the new brow position is marked while you are sitting upright.
- Anaesthesia: the operation is performed under local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia and usually takes 1–2 hours.
- Lifting: the brow tissues are released, lifted and fixed in their new position.
- Closing: the incisions are closed with fine stitches.
- Aftercare: most patients go to their hotel on the same day.
Recovery timeline
First 2–3 days: Swelling and bruising around the forehead and eyes peak. Keep your head elevated and use cold compresses.
Around day 7: Stitches are removed and most patients are cleared to fly home.
Week 1: Most patients return to desk work.
Weeks 2–3: Most of the bruising has faded and normal activities resume.
Month 1: Most of the swelling has settled and the brows look natural.
Months 3–6: The final result appears as the brow position stabilises and the scars fade.
How to prepare
- Stop smoking and nicotine products at least 4 weeks before and after surgery.
- Tell us about all medicines and supplements; blood thinners, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and some herbal products may need to be paused.
