What is a neck lift?
A neck lift, or platysmaplasty, treats loose neck skin, visible vertical muscle bands and fat under the chin. It restores a clearer angle between the chin and the neck and a sharper jawline.
When the lower face also shows sagging, a neck lift is often combined with a facelift for a balanced result.

How the operation is performed
- Planning: your photos, medical history and goals are reviewed and the technique is agreed before the day of surgery.
- Anaesthesia: the operation is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes 2–3 hours.
- Incisions: a small incision is made under the chin and, when skin is removed, around and behind the ears.
- Tightening: excess fat is removed, the neck muscles are tightened and loose skin is lifted.
- Closing: the incisions are closed with fine stitches and a supportive dressing is applied.
- Aftercare: most patients stay one night in hospital for monitoring before moving to their hotel.
Recovery timeline
First 2–3 days: Swelling and tightness peak. Keep your head elevated; discomfort is usually controlled with simple painkillers.
Around day 7–10: Stitches are removed and wound checks are completed, and most patients are cleared to fly home.
Week 2: Most bruising fades and most patients return to work.
Weeks 4–6: Exercise resumes gradually and the neck feels more natural.
Month 3: Most of the swelling has settled and the new neck contour is clearly visible.
Months 3–6: The final result appears as residual swelling resolves and the scars mature.
