What is Botox?
Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin that temporarily relaxes the muscles that cause expression lines. It is one of the most common non-surgical aesthetic treatments and is also used for excessive sweating, teeth grinding and migraine.
The effect starts within a few days, is fully visible after about 2 weeks and lasts around 3–4 months.

How the treatment is performed
- Consultation: your goals and medical history are reviewed and the treatment areas are agreed.
- Planning: the injection points are marked according to your muscle movement.
- Treatment: small amounts of Botox are injected with a very fine needle, usually in 15–20 minutes.
- Aftercare: you can return to your daily routine immediately, following a few simple instructions.
After the treatment
First 4 hours: Stay upright, avoid touching or massaging the treated area and avoid strenuous exercise.
Days 2–5: The effect starts to appear.
Day 14: The full effect is visible, and a check-up can be arranged if a small touch-up is needed.
Months 3–4: The effect gradually wears off and the treatment can be repeated.
How to prepare
- Avoid alcohol and, if possible, blood-thinning painkillers for a few days before treatment to reduce bruising.
- Tell us if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have a neuromuscular condition.
- Tell us about previous Botox or filler treatments.
- Come without make-up on the treatment areas.
Risks and possible side effects
Botox is a safe treatment when performed by an experienced doctor. Possible side effects include:
- Small bruises or redness at the injection points
- Mild headache
- Asymmetry that may need a touch-up
- Rarely, temporary drooping of the eyelid or brow
Side effects are temporary because the effect of Botox wears off over time.
