What is a Brazilian butt lift?
A Brazilian butt lift, or BBL, combines liposuction of areas such as the abdomen, flanks and back with the transfer of purified fat to the buttocks. It slims the waist and adds volume and projection to the buttocks in the same operation.
Because your own fat is used, the result feels natural. Part of the transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed in the first months, and the final volume becomes clear once the transferred fat has stabilised.
Who is a good candidate?

BBL techniques
Safety comes first in buttock fat transfer. The plan, volume and technique are decided individually.
Liposuction of donor areas
Fat is harvested with Vaser liposuction from areas such as the abdomen, flanks and back, which also slims the waist. Liposuction of two areas is included.
Safe fat transfer
The purified fat is placed only in the layer under the skin (subcutaneous plane) and never into the buttock muscle. This is the approach recommended by international plastic surgery safety guidelines.
BBL with tummy tuck
For patients with loose abdominal skin, a BBL can be combined with a tummy tuck in the same operation.
Buttock implants
For patients with little fat to transfer, silicone buttock implants, or implants combined with fat transfer, can provide the volume instead.

How the operation is performed
- Planning: your photos, medical history and goals are reviewed and the donor and treatment areas are agreed before the day of surgery.
- Anaesthesia: the operation is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes 2–4 hours.
- Liposuction: fat is removed from the donor areas through small incisions, shaping the waist.
- Fat processing: the collected fat is purified so that only healthy fat cells are transferred.
- Fat transfer: the fat is injected in small amounts into the subcutaneous layer of the buttocks to create the planned shape.
- Aftercare: a compression garment is fitted and most patients stay one night in hospital.
Recovery timeline
First 2 weeks: Avoid sitting or lying directly on your buttocks; a special cushion is used when sitting is unavoidable. Gentle walking starts early.
Around day 7: Wound checks are completed and most patients are cleared to fly home, with breaks to walk during the flight.
Week 2: Most patients return to desk work, and normal sitting returns gradually.
Weeks 6–8: The compression garment is worn for about 6 weeks, and exercise resumes gradually.
Month 3: Most of the swelling has settled and the new shape is clearly visible.
Month 6: The final result appears once the transferred fat has stabilised.
How to prepare
- Keep your weight stable; significant weight change after surgery affects the transferred fat.
- Stop smoking and nicotine products at least 4 weeks before and after surgery.
- Tell us about all medicines and supplements; blood thinners, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and some herbal products may need to be paused.
- Send clear front, side and back photos for the online assessment.
- Plan about 7 days in Istanbul and 2 weeks away from work.
Risks and possible complications
Every operation carries risk. Possible complications of a Brazilian butt lift include:
- Fat embolism (a rare but serious complication)
- Blood clots
- Bleeding, infection or fluid collection

- Loss of transferred volume
